A Word (or a few) About The 8/20 Openers

Hey! We’re gonna keep reminding you about our Mac’s Bar show on August 20th until the day of the show. The show is going to be awesome and we want to prove it to you. Today you get to read about the other bands playing the show and why we chose them to play and why you should care about them!

Opening up the show will be a band from Lansing called Fisherking. Their music is best described as Comeback Kid-esque hardcore. They don’t play shows very often so it’s really cool that we got them to play with us at this show. Check out their full length, Ghost to get an idea of what they’re all about (Fun fact: this was almost released on Scott’s label, Triple Deke, but at the last minute the band ended up just doing it themselves and releasing it digitally with a small amount of CDs). Jacob from Homelife is also in this band now which is cool since they’re another band we used to play with quite a bit.

After them will be a new band called Absolute Boyfriend. They are made up of current-and-ex members of Wayne Szalinski as well as Danny from Small Parks and Summerpunx. From what I’ve been told their music is surfy indie pop. Knowing the members of the band I know it’s going to be great. Andrew and Ian have or currently live(d) at Hariet Brown, one of our favorite houses to play, and where this show originally was going to be.

Listen: Nowhere :(

Up next is The Most Dangerous Animal. For a little while Scott was playing guitar with these guys. He’s on a couple tracks on their debut full length, Time Heals All Wounds, and played with them when they opened up for Ceremony at Mac’s Bar last fall. They’re a melodic hardcore band with indie rock tendencies. Most of the band used to play in a band called Downers which is one of Scott’s favorite Michigan bands ever. We’re working on setting up a split with them to come out once our full length is out later this year. There aren’t enough good words to say about them. Oh, and Mohnish, their guitarist, recorded the song “Custer” for us and will be doing some more recording for us in the future.

The final band before us is The Fever Haze. We’ve been praising this band for years and it’s awesome to finally see so many other people recognizing their greatness. If you haven’t already please go listen to our split with them as well as their brand new full length, I’ll Be In The Same Place You Left Me (Both out on Triple Deke). They blend current indie/emo with classic rock to make their own unique sound. They just finished up a Midwest tour and are starting to make a name for themselves regionally as well.

As you can see this show is full of friends and people who are all a part of the gigantic extended Secret Grief family. We really hope that you feel a part of that family as well and choose to join us.

Full Details: Wednesday, August 20th. Mac’s Bar - 2700 E. Michigan Ave - Lansing, MI. Doors at 7pm. $8. Pre-Sale tickets available from Fusion Shows.

Anonymous said: you guys should reprint the Ron Swanson shirts but w the new name I would totally buy one. you should get more shirts in general tbh

Hmmmm. I think we discussed retiring that design for good. We’ll see what ends up happening. I agree that we need more shirts. Unfortunately we don’t make much money and all of it right now is tied up into paying for recording.

Anonymous said: how do u feel abt the gender binary

It’s a topic that makes my head hurt thinking about it because I seemingly can find flaws in every direction on the subject. I’m not saying that anyone is wrong per se. I just think that there’s a lot of stuff being said about it that makes me wonder if the person speaking understands what they’re saying on a holistic level and not just from their own point of view. Who am I, though? I haven’t studied it enough to have a valid opinion that anyone should really care about. For the most part I fit neatly into the binary (or at least don’t mind being in it) and am ok being a guy, dude, man, whatever word you wanna use. That being said, I understand and accept that gender binary is basically bullshit and has been debunked by everyone from feminists to sociologists to anthropologists. If a person I know/know of doesn’t fit into and/or flat out rejects the gender binary I will always respect their personal wishes and do whatever is in my power to acknowledge them in the way that makes them feel comfortable.

Ticket Link for Mac’s Bar show on 8/20

On August 20th we are playing a headlining show at Mac’s Bar in Lansing, MI to kickoff our end of summer tour. We don’t headline shows like this very often so it’s a little nerve-wracking to be doing so. It would mean a lot to us if you came out to the show. The lineup has a little bit for everyone and all the bands are incredible. We’re trying our best to sell the show out (around 200 people) so every person we can get to come is important. If you’d like to secure a spot you can pre-order tickets at the following link: http://fusionshows.com/event/08-20-14/secret-grief-macs-bar-lansing-mi.

Hope to see a bunch of you at the show!

Anonymous said: Do you guys have any plans for coming to Saint Louis in the near future?

Nothing concrete. Hoping to make our way there once the full length is out. Best case scenario: this fall. Worst case scenario: next summer.

Don’t listen to Secret Grief unless you already want to drown yourself in a lake. It will make you that sad.
